[Ongoing] Temperature of Love – Final Thoughts

Unsurprisingly, we got a happy ending with everyone getting back together and basically all problems being resolved.

I don’t especially like this kind of easy ending, but that’s exactly what I was expecting for this drama, so it’s not like I was disappointed. At times I thought it would be nice if Hyun Soo fell for Jung Woo, but I knew it wasn’t going to happen. I really hoped that Won Joon would forget Hong Ah and be happy with Soo Jung, but unfortunately that didn’t happen. That was frustrating, but again, not surprising.

I was more bothered by how some characters’ actions and decisions didn’t make sense at all, which made them hardly believable. Sometimes, it seems it would have been easy to make them act slightly differently, which would have made the whole story more realistic.

As much as Jung Woo’s resolve to get between our main couple didn’t make sense, the way he suddenly stopped and reconciled with Jung Seon made even less sense. I’m not even sure what was the reason given for him to change his mind… Although he acted quite stupidly in this story, I ended up feeling quite bad for him. How can someone so intelligent, nice and good looking be so lonely? In any case, Kim Jae Wook’s performance successfully made me forget about his creepy character in Voice… which is a good thing.

I liked how Jung Seon’s mother ended up opening her flower shop… thanks to Hyun Soo. Although Jung Seon kind of seemed a bit nicer to his mother at the end, it didn’t look like he changed his opinion about her and he was still doubting her capacity to run a business, basically telling her she should just do nothing.

According to some reviews I’ve read, some viewers really disliked Jung Seon’s mother, and even compared her to Hong Ah. I can totally understand that people would be annoyed with her, but she was not nearly as mean and calculative as Hong Ah. And because Jung Seon was so mean to her, I couldn’t really hate her. Yes, I thought she was foolish many times, but I couldn’t hate her.

Speaking of Hong Ah… if there’s a character who was despicable until the very end, that’s her! Actually, her character didn’t make much sense either. Why would someone like her want to be a writer? And why would she be friends with Hyun Soo? Her attitude was always so annoying, even when she was trying to be nice.

However, I actually kind of like how Hong Ah and Director Min, also shown as a despicable character from the start, ended up forming a great team and (kind of) getting along together. Maybe if Director Min had been younger, it would have been nice to see the beginning of a love line there, allowing Woo Joon to move on and be happy with Soo Jung. Because let’s be honest: if Hong Ah left him alone when he started to see Soo Jung, he might have eventually really forgotten her. I don’t know if we were supposed to be moved by the fact that Hong Ah realized that she actually loved Woo Joon, but it didn’t work at all. Not for me, at least.

At the beginning, it seemed to me that the drama was intending to show us some development or sub-story with Good Soup staff, especially Min Ho. But we ended up without additional information about them. I thought that was a bit weird, especially since the story focused on them quite a lot at first.

I must mention Hyun Soo’s parents… they were shown as a lovely couple that you couldn’t help but love. But then, when they met Jung Seon’s mother, Hyun Soo’s mother became excessively judgemental and remained as such until the end. I understand that they are a traditional family, but just because of the way Jung Seon’s mother dresses, and because she’s dating a younger man, Hyun Soo’s mother disapproves her relationship? It doesn’t make sense at all. It could have been a way of showing that you shouldn’t judge people too quickly, if she eventually changed her attitude. But the writer chose to leave it like that, making her look superficial and closed-minded. And it doesn’t quite make sense to me that such a parent raised someone like Hyun Soo. Honestly, if I was Hyun Soo I would have been ashamed of her. Anyway.

Joon Ha and Kyung were the typical humorous side couple. They were not especially realistic or incredibly funny, but I didn’t mind them too much. I was happy that they finally got together at the end.

There might have been some deep statements about love in this drama, but I just didn’t get them. The main couple had good chemistry, but I didn’t feel especially moved by them. At first, I thought Hyun Soo was an interesting and unusual character, but I ended up finding her quite boring and almost annoying at times. I’m someone who is quite independent in love, so the way she was always analyzing the relationship, putting pressure on Jung Seon and basically making him the center of her universe was very unappealing to me. I became tired of the couple’s little lovey-dovey behavior. But maybe that’s just how I am, lol.

In conclusion, I can’t say I was emotionally invested enough in this drama to be really disappointed and frustrated. Overall, it was a nice watch, but that’s it. I wouldn’t especially recommend it, however. Next!
